Weekend Tourists

During the week we tend to follow a pretty normal schedule. Jake goes to work and I care for the kids. The kids and I stay busy with our day to day chores, park visits, playgroup/playdates, etc. Our favorite time however is the weekends where we can just be tourists and pretend we're on vacation :)

Now the we have bikes, we can't believe we waited three weeks to get them! They are so much fun and open up the city to us. Come rain or shine, we are biking to a fun destination on the weekends.

Here are a few things we've done the past few weekends:

Vondelpark: We love Vondelpark! It's a 15 minute bike ride from our apartment and so much fun to ride bikes around. It has several playgrounds, places to eat, ponds, etc. Great place to people watch :) We've been here a few times and still have not seen everything.
Love the bakfiets

Groot Melkhuis (Great Milkhouse)

Unique playgrounds

The National Maritime Museum: This gem is about a 10 minute bike ride from our apartment. Alex loves it because it has a pirate ship that you can go through. Also inside the museum are several kid friendly exhibits including one where you can walk inside the belly of a whale.

Shooting a cannon

NEMO Science Center: An interactive science museum that is great for all ages. Nemo is right by the Maritime museum. We ventured out in the rain this past weekend to check it out and were pretty impressed.

The top floor of the museum even had an exhibit for teens about hormones which was pretty interesting. I think I learned a few things, haha

Teen Area...PG-13...

Only in Amsterdam...

We're looking forward to many more touristy weekends! We still have so much to do and see...Keukenhoff (tulips), Dam Square, Van Gogh museum, Ann Frank house, etc.
